My mother, always a very active and social person, now lives in a skilled nursing facility in San Francisco. She is ninety-four years old, and has serious physical, and cognitive disabilities. Among other things, my mother has much difficulty with her hearing and vision. She also needs to use a wheelchair. Normally my mother had private part-time caregivers. She also looked forward to regular visits with family. One day a SFDPH order was posted at the facility entrance suddenly stopping all visitation, and my mother’s life drastically changed. After several months, my mother is obviously suffering severe physical and mental decline. A weekly Zoom meeting is difficult and confusing for her. Every day my mother pleads with me during phone calls wanting to know when she will see me again. It is painful. She is lonely, afraid, and needs me now. Please make it possible for me to safely visit my mother and reassure her.
